Paige Kaps, a Nanaimo native, studied voice and piano in BC with Donna Falconer and Janice Skipsey respectively. After being awarded the OCCS scholarship in 2021, she has continued her classical music studies at the University of Toronto in Voice Performance.
In 2022 Paige had the wonderful opportunity of performing before one of the OCCS concerts, accompanied by her teacher Donna. Paige has continued to excel in music, recently competing as the BC representative in the 2023 CFMTA national vocal competition. She also performed by video in the OCCS' Emerging Artist concert in June 2024.
Paige thanks the OCCS for their commitment to the classical music community and its young artists.
Caiden Meyer, a 2022 graduate of Alberni District Secondary School (ADSS), began his studies in September in the Faculty of Music at the University of Victoria.
A gifted musician who plays saxophone, flute and piccolo, Caiden has plans to pursue a career as a music educator to help kindle the musical talents of the next generation.
After completing his first term, Caiden remarked “My first semester was definitely a huge change, but it has been amazing! I have had many performing opportunities and have met so many amazing musicians. I would not have been able to do this without the help of this scholarship and I am so grateful.
Vocalist Sabrina Blaase will be entering the Bachelor of Music Program at the University of Victoria in September 2023.
She has been active in musical theatre throughout the community with key roles in productions at her alma mater, Ballenas Secondary School, as well as the Qualicum Beach School of Dance, Echo Theatre, and Bard to Broadway.
Sabrina plans to pursue a career in vocal performance but has also considered gaining a teaching certificate in order to "spread the love of music to other musicians and aspiring performers".
