OCCS launched this exciting program in February, 2020, when the Foothills Brass Quintet conducted an open rehearsal and masterclass session, coordinated by OCCS Director Mary Leigh Warden. Five musicians from Kwalikum Secondary School teamed up with the Foothills Brass Quintet for a two-hour intense learning experience that involved structure, subtle techniques and applications about the instruments and working as a harmonious unit. Each student paired up with one of the professionals and, throughout the session, received individual tutoring while having the opportunity to play alongside their mentor.
The next youth workshop will be held in the Spring of 2022 and will be promoted on this website and through local schools and music instructors.
The OCCS Mentoring Program invites music students to assist with various responsibilities at OCCS concerts, including Front of House responsibilities, observing technical personnel and meeting the professional guest artists.
