The OCCS Youth Workshop Program provides a unique opportunity for music students to engage with and learn from nationally and internationally acclaimed musicians.
OCCS launched this exciting program in February, 2020, when the Foothills Brass Quintet conducted an open rehearsal and masterclass session, coordinated by OCCS Director Mary Leigh Warden. Five musicians from Kwalikum Secondary School teamed up with the Foothills Brass Quintet for a two-hour intense learning experience that involved structure, subtle techniques and applications about the instruments and working as a harmonious unit. Each student paired up with one of the professionals and, throughout the session, received individual tutoring while having the opportunity to play alongside their mentor.
The next youth workshop will be held in the Spring of 2022 and will be promoted on this website and through local schools and music instructors.
