The OCCS 2020-2021 season has been postponed for a year due to the Covid-19 Pandemic health restrictions. This fall we would have presented concerts featuring Percussiano-3 and a specially designed program, Young Beethoven, to celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday. We couldn’t bring the performers onstage for you so we created two videos to give you a sneak preview.
George Zukerman, OC, OBC, is our esteemed Artistic Advisor. With a wealth of knowledge and a keen sense of humour, George is the perfect interviewer. In the first video, he chats with Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann (the Bergmann Duo) about their ensemble Percussiano-3. The Bergmanns join forces with percussionist Rod Thomas Squance for a remarkable and high energy musical experience.
The second video features Marcel Bergmann interviewing George Zukerman about the Young Beethoven concert program. This lively chat focuses on Beethoven’s early-years compositions, including the hugely popular septet, often viewed as the bridge between his chamber music and his early symphonic writing. We’ve included a link to a very special recording of Beethoven’s Septet Scherzo, recorded in 2012, featuring our Mr. Zukerman, internationally acclaimed bassoonist.
The Young Beethoven concert will be presented next season and will feature a brilliant ensemble of Vancouver-based virtuosi assembled just for you, featuring violin; clarinet; bassoon; cello, and a team of three remarkable horn players.
